FIRST ILL-FATED RESTORATION ATTEMPT, 1977

 The Isle of Man Steam Railway Supporters' Association launched an ambitious project to restore No.9 to steam in 1977 and work commenced on stripping the locomotive for assessment and it was later removed from the carriage shed to be displayed as below.  Ultimately the project fell through when the locomotive was sold to the now-defunct Isle of Man Railway Society.
