No.9 IN SERVICE FROM THE ARCHIVES

Some views from the Supporters' Association archives showing No.9 Douglas in service prior to withdrawal from traffic in 1953.  The locomotive retained her Salter safety valves until the end of her career and carried worksplates on the rear portion of the tanks in common with her elder sister No.8 Fenella, both with sloping smokeboxes.

Removed from the old carriage shed at Douglas Station prior to demolition to make way for the Banks Circus office complex, No.9 was seen in the light of day before being rehoused in the new carriage shed, seen with No.6 Peveril , then recently cosmetically restored by the Supporters' Association and No.5 Mona which was owned by the now-defunct Isle of Man Railway Society at the time as well.

PONY TRUCK WORK, 25th JANUARY

  Work on the cosmetic restoration of No.9 in the running shed at Douglas Station is progressing with attention currently being focused on the pony truck which has been removed from the frames and has been pressure washed ahead of preparing for painting.  Once this is complete it will be returned to the locomotive and volunteers' attention will turn to the frames prior to the boiler being refitted.

FRAMES STORED IN PORT ERIN, 2021

Following the removal of asbestos, the frames were stored in the carriage shed at Port Erin Station having been treated to a preparatory coat of red oxide paint; the boiler was stored under a tarpaulin on the bogie well wagon on the "Peel East" siding at Douglas Station for the duration.
